Sculptvember 2011

Since Inktober ended, I've decided to start a new conquest of sort. I call it SCULPTVEMBER!!!

Basically it's the same as Inktober, but instead of doing an ink drawing every week day, I will do a speed sculpt in zBrush every week day.

Here are my first 2 results the first (30 mins, on left) was just playing around with the new Dynamesh in zBrush, and the second picture (1 hour 10 mins, on right) was from a sketch done by an artist by the name of Luigi Lucarelli, who is fantastic.

I'll try to post my efforts as I go along in this month.

enjoy!

Baby Redbeard

This is the first look at little baby boy redbeard. How could it not be a boy?! A friend once told me,"Men make men." And if my giant beard says anything its that I am a man! And so is my boy! Gee!

Goodbye my friend

I'm leaving Seattle today. I've had a great time. Loved school. But I think the only thing I will really miss is my good friend Mr. Bike. We had one last great bike ride together across the shore of the puget sound. I will miss that the most.
But I am going home to my beautiful wife and awkwardly cute dog, and undetermined sex baby.

So goodbye my 2 wheeled friend. and hello my family!

Gas Station

Here is a gas station I modeled and textured in a week.
(notice the hand painted textures and graphics I made myself. Even the face plate for gas prices. The company is Mcfly.... I'm a big fan of back to the future.)
(this is an in-game lighting test)

I modeled it in 3D Studio Max, and textured in photoshop and illustrator. I hand painted all of the rust and textures on the gas station. I also created all the logos and decals myself in illustrator. I even made the design of the gas station myself combining several references.

This is made for an in game asset, the challenge was to make this model under 3000 Tris, I clocked this one in at just under with 2990.

Enjoy.

Radio Active Spiderman

So from that quick spiderman sketch I did a while back I decided to make it into a quick 3d model. I only spent a couple of days on this in my free time. But figured I would post it. I was going for a more lengthy comic book style spidey.

Free time

I had some free time on Thursday so I made the base body for my sharkbot concept.

I know. It has no fins. But those will be covered in his suit.

I would do more but my beautiful wife is in town, so I am devoting all of my time to her because she is amazing! Love my wife mucho

Enjoy.

Town House

Our last assignment we had to design and build a 3 story townhouse that had to include a little shop as well. It had to be game ready so it had to be under 15,000 tris, and only be 5 or less 1024 maps.

I finished this in about 2 and 1/2 weeks, just under 15,000 tris at about 14,800 and only 4 1024 maps. Here is a quick mental ray render.

Enjoy.

Every animal deserves a warm meal...

Here is a quick concept that I drew up this morning. I will be working on turning this into a 3d model, but I would love some feedback on ideas on how to make this better from the 3 of you that have seen my blog...

Enjoy.

Brad Bird weekend

This weekend I decided to have a tribute to Brad Bird. The mastermind behind my 2 favorite animated films, The Iron Giant and The Incredibles. I watch both of the films over the weekend... Actually I watched The Incredibles twice. Amazing!
So I have decided that it is my new goal in life to work on a production with Brad Bird. His story lines and ideas are simply genius. The 2 movies mentioned before are the 2 main influences in my life that made me want to be an animator.
That being said, here is a quick 15 min sketch I did of the big man himself. Done with opacity markers, something I have never used before, but am glad to experiment with.

Enjoy.

The Greatest American heroes

Finally two of America's greatest super heroes join forces. Obama and Spiderman. I think we are all better people because of this comic.

This was given to me at school today. I'm glad they were thinking of me when they saw this.

Enjoy.

Watercolor.

Sunday nights have become my time to play around with water colors. This is one I did a couple of weeks ago. I've never really done anything with water colors before, but I love playing around with this new medium.

Quick Concept

I haven't really drawn super heroes lately. I did when I was a kid, and basically it was an internal battle with me always over who was better, superman or spider man. So I guess in this case spidey wins... So here is my quick sketch, i always enjoyed a more lengthy skinny spiderman myself.
This could turn into a quick 3d model as well.

Fun with Sculpty

Before we did the Pops model in 3D, we actually made a clay sculpture of the character. I started only with a ball of tinfoil and built it up from there. It was a lot of fun. Behind the sculpture you can see a picture of the concept art provided by the 3DTA.

Update!

Hello! I know I haven't posted anything in quite a while, so here are a few things I have been doing here in Seattle at the 3DTA.

Here are a few Assets designed for an air ship we were working on. These are low poly models each between 500 - 1200 tris each.

This is the masthead for the ship

Steering wheel and Globe compass

This was a fun 2 day speed character design, Jack Pumpkin Head, based of the Marvel graphic novel "Marvelous Land of OZ".

This is a character named Pops from the 3DTA. This was from an assignment to create a low poly game ready model. (modeled in maya, textured in zbrush and photoshop)

Here is a close up of Pops head that I sculpted.

Anyways, This is what I have been up to. Please feel free to give me some critiques, and I am looking to enter the industry soon and would love some feedback on how I can improve my skills.

Enjoy
